How we look after personal information
Montessa holds information about children. This page explains, in plain words, what we hold, why, and who can see it.
Who is responsible for the data
A school that uses Montessa decides what information it records about its children, families and staff. The school is the controller of that information; Montessa processes it on the school's behalf and only to run the service the school has asked for.
For questions about a child's record, speak to the school first. They can see, correct, export and delete it from inside Montessa.
What we hold
Names, contact details, class and enrolment details, attendance, learning records, photos and observations, health notes, consents, pickup permissions, messages, and fee and payment records, as entered by the school, its staff and its families.
Account details for everyone who signs in, and technical records needed to keep the service secure: sign-in times, devices used for push notifications, and audit entries for sensitive changes.
What we never do
We never sell personal information, never use it for advertising, and never share one school's records with another school.
Card numbers never reach Montessa. Online payments are taken by Paystack or Stripe, which give us a confirmation and a reference, not the card.
Who can see it
Inside a school, access follows each person's role: a parent sees their own children, a teacher their classes, finance staff billing, and so on.
Montessa support staff can view a school only to help it, and every such view is recorded in the school's access log.
We use carefully chosen providers to host the service, send email, push notifications and SMS, and take payments. They process data only on our instructions.
How long it is kept
Records are kept while the school uses Montessa. When a school leaves, it can export its data, and we delete it within 90 days unless the law requires us to keep part of it longer (for example, payment records).
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete information about yourself or your child. Ask your school, or contact us through the support page and we will work with your school to respond.
